The brief

Matthew Clay Architects, a specialist architectural practice based in Corsham, contacted GWBrix for help with several IT issues affecting their studio.

The existing network setup had become messy and unreliable, with cabling and connectivity issues causing problems around the studio. Because the studio was located on the same property as the home, the home and business networks were not clearly separated, raising concerns around security, reliability and day-to-day management.
Wi-Fi coverage was also poor, with regular dropouts across both the studio and home areas.

Alongside the networking issues, Matthew Clay Architects also wanted to modernise how client information and project progress could be managed. They needed a solution that could work alongside local data, while also making it easier to create and manage SharePoint sites for client and project work.
Most importantly, they wanted one trusted contact who could look at the full picture, recommend practical solutions and provide ongoing support when needed.

What we did

GWBrix carried out a refresh of the network infrastructure, replacing the existing switches in both the studio and home areas and installing a new firewall to improve edge security and network control.

The network was restructured using VLANs to separate home and studio traffic, helping create a more secure and professional setup for the business while still supporting the wider property.

Wi-Fi was upgraded to improve coverage and reliability, reducing dropouts and giving the studio a more dependable connection for day-to-day work.

GWBrix also configured Microsoft SharePoint to support better management of client and internal information. This included creating structured SharePoint sites and building a Power Automate and Power Apps solution to make future site creation easier and more consistent.

A sync process was also configured between SharePoint and a local NAS, helping support the way the business works with both cloud and local data.

As part of the wider IT improvements, GWBrix also assisted with the setup of a new 3CX phone system, helping bring communications into a more modern and manageable setup.
